Jeffree Star Velour Lip Scrub in Pink Lemonade review

Hello, my jelly beans! Today, I am very excited to bring you a review of the Jeffree Star Velour lip scrub in Pink Lemonade, which is part of the 2018 Summer Collection. Whilst I know that people tend to have mixed opinions about Jeffree himself (although personally, I think the recent YouTube mini-series starring him and Shane was pretty amazing), I've always been a fan of his products as they're very reliable, unique and not overly pricey. This was actually my first time trying out a proper lip scrub of any kind - my lips are very sensitive, so I've always been a little cautious about exfoliating them! Today, I will be sharing with you my honest thoughts on this Velour lip scrub. Hope you enjoy!

Velour Lip Scrub in 'Pink Lemonade'

The Velour lip scrub by Jeffree Star is a sugar-based, fully edible scrub that's supposed to exfoliate your lips, preparing them for applying liquid lipstick. The Velour lip scrubs retail at £12 for 30ml - I thought that was quite pricey at first, but considering how much product you get (it'll last you months!), I think it's actually fairly reasonable. The packaging is bright, sturdy, and looks quite high-end; plus you get too chose from a huge range of colours and flavours. The 2018 Summer Collection includes four different flavours - Grape Soda, Gummy Bear, Rainbow Sherbet and finally Pink Lemonade, which is the one I've picked out for this review.

The thing that surprised me the most about this lip scrub was just how delicious it really is. Being sugar-based and edible, it was very hard to resist applying way more than was needed! The texture is very much like sugar - dry and quite coarse, but surprisingly gentle when applied on the lips. You only need a tiny amount to cover the lips, rub in circular motion and then either wipe it off with a tissue, or just lick it all off (my preferred method!). I was honestly a little worried using this at first because of how sensitive my lips are, but worry not - this little scrub is super gentle, and what's more important - it actually works. I was surprised by how much softer my lips felt after just one use! This is a perfect prep method for applying liquid lipstick, especially if you top it up with a nice lip balm after exfoliating.

The Good

The Bad

As rare as it is, I have truly nothing bad to say about this lip scrub. It's a fantastic, practical product all-around. Perhaps my only complaint is that tasting it really makes you crave sweets!

The Verdict

Overall, I am a huge fan of the Velour lip scrub, and I'm actually pretty amazed by how effective it turned out to be. This is one of those beauty products that (at least for me) you never thought you'd need, but once you try it - you just can't live without it. I wholeheartedly recommend that you check out this range, loves - there are so many different flavours to choose from, so you're sure to find one that you'll enjoy. I love Pink Lemonade as it is both sugary and fruity-fresh, but honestly I can't wait to try out other flavours in the range. It's very rare here on Shoes and Glitter, but I have no choice but to give the Jeffree Star Velour lip scrub and honest, and very happy 10/10!
