Favourite summer lipsticks! Drugstore + high-end

Hey, lovelies! I'm feeling really excited now that summer is finally here (even though since the summer's started three days ago, we've only had about fifteen minutes of sunshine so far...)! Typically, I don't tend to change up my makeup depending on the season, and I'm pretty bad at following the latest beauty trends. However, since my makeup collection keeps expanding with every payday, I've decided to mix things up a bit and introduce more of a seasonal rotation. Whilst I enjoy sticking to the same sort of shades all year round, I think that summer is a good opportunity to go a little brighter with your makeup. Today, I'm very excited to share with you a few of my favourite summer lipstick picks, which are all about vibrant pinks, reds, and feminine nudes. Hope you enjoy!

Dior Addict in 553 Smile (£26.50)
This is probably my favourite lipstick in my current collection, and I honestly can't recommend it enough! Whenever I'm a little unsure as to which lippie to go for, I usually end up reaching for this one - you just can't go wrong with a lovely, soft pink shade like this. Smile is versatile, feminine and subtle, and it goes well with any makeup look. The formula is lightweight, hydrating and easy to apply; giving the lips a lovely, subtle shine. It's supposedly enriched with three types of oils that help to moisturize the lips, and it does feel very comfortable and hydrating when applied. This is definitely more like a tinted lip balm rather than a classic lipstick, although the colour payoff is still pretty impressive. I like how it makes my lips look fuller and plumper, plus it does a great job at concealing any imperfections (if you have dry, cracked lips).

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine in 44 Nude Lavalliere (£26)
First of all, can we all just stop for a moment and admire the gorgeous packaging? It's so sleek and elegant, and I absolutely adore the metallic golden colour. YSL really own the packaging game, and the lovely lipstick hidden inside is just as exciting. Nude Lavalliere is a perfect nude shade - warm, soft, pale; it truly gives you that 'your lips but MUCH better' kind of look. The formula is comfortable and very hydrating; the lipstick glides on smoothly and makes the lips appear fuller and plumper, covering up any imperfections. It's quite glossy at first, but that wears off after a little while, leaving your lips with just a subtle sheen. I love this shade because it's so wearable and versatile, and it looks especially beautiful when combined with bronze/golden eyeshadows.

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker in Perfect Day (£7)
I actually wasn't a huge fan of this lipstick at first, but it really grew on me! I've been finding myself reaching for it more and more often, especially on days when I can't be bothered to put on any real makeup. Perfect Day is a casual, soft red with pink undertones; although it actually looks quite nude when applied. It gives a nice tint of colour without being too bold, although it's easily buildable if you want more coverage. The formula is very lightweight and comfortable to wear, enriched with shea butter and vitamin E for extra hydration. The lipstick feels very creamy and soft on the lips, and has a pleasant, sweet scent to it (which might be a downside if you prefer your makeup to be fragrance-free). L'Oreal Privee Color Riche in Julianne's Nude (£6.99)
The whole Color Riche range is absolutely wonderful and full of gorgeous shades, but if I had to pick just one, I'd definitely go with Julianne's Nude. This is a warm, peachy-pink nude with a pearl finish, which is perfect for everyday wear. This shade was designed to suit paler skintones, but I actually think that it would look beautiful on anyone. It's versatile, wearable, and it feels very comfortable and hydrating when applied. There is a slight hint of shimmer to it, but it's very subtle, giving the lips a lovely shine. As a huge fan of the entire Color Riche collection I'd wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone - these lipsticks are of great quality whilst very affordable, and there are countless amounts of shades to choose from.

Rimmel The Only 1 in You're All Mine and The Best of The Best (£6.99)
I absolutely adore the whole Rimmel's The Only 1 range - there are so many vibrant shades to choose from, and the lipsticks themselves are of high quality and very affordable. The formula is moisturising, lightweight and comfortable to wear. It feels creamy and buttery when applied, and it really 'sticks' to your lips without drying them out. There are about 15 shades available, and I have yet to try them all. The two I've been loving are You're All Mine (a very girly, vibrant pink) and The Best of The Best (a juicy, vibrant red with a satin finish). Both of these are wonderfully pigmented, and can easily brighten up even the simplest makeup look. If you're interested, you can check out my full review of these lippies here!

As you can see in the swatches above, most of these lippies are quite subtle and wearable, which I think makes them lovely for casual summer wear. The Rimmel lipsticks are definitely a lot more pigmented than the rest, making them a good option if you want to go for something a little bolder! My personal favourite is Dior's Smile, although L'Oreal's Julianne's Nude is actually quite similar, and might be worth considering if you're looking for a budget-friendly alternative.
